What is Mind Body Eating/Eating Psychology Coaching?

Mind Body Eating and Eating Psychology Coaching is an exciting and cutting edge approach developed by the Institute for the Psychology of Eating to address weight concerns, binge eating, overeating, body image challenges, and various nutrition related health concerns, including mood, immunity and digestion. As a Mind Body Eating/Eating Psychology Coach, my approach is positive and empowering and I never see your struggles as a sign that there is something wrong with you. Instead, I consider your challenges as a message to more fully explore some of the personal dimensions in your life that may be having an impact on your food, weight or health.

How is my approach different?

For far too long we have been inundated by negative societal messages about food, weight and diet. We have been offered different diets in every shape and form and been made to feel weak, out of control and lacking willpower when we are not able to successfully maintain these diets. As a result, people are often confused about what to eat and how to have a happy and healthy relationship with food. Diet culture has also led us to form toxic nutritional beliefs that have a strong impact on our relationship with food, as well as our digestion.

In my professional practice, I combine many of the best strategies from nutrition science and eating psychology, as well as my skills as an Occupational Therapist to help recognize the complexity of your food struggles and address them in a client-centered multifaceted approach. By eliminating all of the “shoulds and shouldn’ts”, I focus on what is right for you and your body. As we work together in this way, eating and health issues become a place of exploration and instead of seeing challenges as the enemy, they become opportunities for growth and self-improvement.

I help you learn how to better identify and regulate your emotions and learn the importance of allowing and welcoming all of them, instead of being tempted to numb out with food or other vices. I also teach you strategies to get back in your body instead of constantly living in your head. As well, in our work together we will explore the importance of nervous system regulation and how living in a constant state of stress can have a negative impact on both your physical and mental health. I also believe in the power of thoughts and will guide you in re-wiring the thought patterns that are preventing you from reaching your goals.
